Three projects
We are delivering three upgrades including the most recently awarded Emergency Department Upgrade. This essential upgrade will add six new beds, create 164 square metres of new facility and reconfigure 1,152 square metres of the existing facility. It will also deliver an extra negative-pressure isolation bed and, for the first time, two negative pressure resuscitation spaces. Other projects include an upgrade to the hospital's oldest infrastructure which requires complex staging, and replacing four of the chillers.
Community support
The team donated over $11,000 to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation following the sale of two old hospital generators that were removed from the Cairns Hospital High Voltage Upgrade project. The generators were more than 30 years old and weighed over six tonnes each. They will be replaced with a new generator offering improved technology and low voltage power generation.
