Excelling in a challenging environment
Collaborative excellence
Our alliance-style contract delivered in close collaboration with Adelaide Airport Limited, delivery partners including Baukultur / Hassell, Bestec and Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec, and other stakeholders ensured efficient delivery of all project stages with no interruption to public spaces or the flight program. This collaborative model extended to our relationship with subcontractors, who we commenced engagement with during the tender stage. Essentially, we formed a unified project team culture of openness and collaboration which enabled quick resolutions and directly contributed to the stages consistently handed over ahead of program.
Live environment
The highly coordinated and complex project was delivered in a challenging live environment with passenger and airport personnel safety the highest priority. The project comprised 21,400m2 new build and 14,600m2 refurbishment with fit-out and furniture, fixtures and equipment. Works took place in landside, sterile and airside areas, and within Border Agency controlled environments. Refurbishment works took place in live environments across public and custom controlled areas. A highly co-ordinated project, it consisted of seven Separable Portions with approximately 29 interim zone handovers. To manage the constantly changing site layout and work conditions due to the large number of stages, 110 hoarding plans and 50 staging plans were developed. To further ensure customer safety and ensure the airport remained accessible, we built a six-metre wide, 15-metre long passenger tunnel to maintain access to the Northern Gates.
As with any project, safety is our absolute top priority – which can be challenging when working in a live environment. The team’s commitment to worker, public and airport personnel safety resulted in zero LTI’s over three and a half years.
