Adelaide Airport Project Flight

#Overview

Project Flight is the latest milestone in BESIX Watpac’s 15-year partnership with Adelaide Airport, delivering a major upgrade and expansion program to enhance the passenger experience and shape the airport for future growth. Our involvement spans six projects across the Check-In Hall and the Northern and Southern terminals. This includes an expanded and upgraded check-in facility that will be equip with new technology and passenger processing infrastructure; a major Northern Terminal expansion featuring new gates, aviation offices. External works will be coordinated with concurrent apron works for seamless commissioning; and new facilities and refurbishment works to the Southern Terminal that will increase gate capacity and passenger amenities. Each stage is being undertaken within a live airport environment with a strong focus on safety, access and operational continuity.

Keeping Adelaide Airport moving

Collaborative contracting at its best

Building on a 15-year partnership with Adelaide Airport, BESIX Watpac brings deep operational insight to deliver Project Flight through a collaborative and trusted model. Drawing on lessons from seven successful projects, the team works in close alignment with more than 150 stakeholders, including airport operations, consultants, incumbent system providers and key user groups, from the outset through early contractor involvement (ECI). This approach enables informed and timely decision making, effective interface management and early resolution of operational challenges, providing greater certainty around scope and program and impacts.

Agile staging ensures continuity of service

Project Flight demonstrates BESIX Watpac’s ability to deliver within a highly regulated, time-critical environment where safety, uninterrupted operations and smooth commissioning are paramount. Delivery of the six sub-projects, from ECI through to full delivery, is coordinated from a single site compound, with multiple teams working in parallel across staged packages to accelerate the overall program. Works occur across day, night and restricted operational windows to align with airport requirements.

Digital integration drives delivery certainty

Digital systems integration and information management are central to Project Flight’s delivery. During the ECI, BESIX Watpac is working with Adelaide Airport and incumbent service providers to identify all operational systems early, define integration responsibilities and align procurement strategies across ICT, security, BMS, FIDS, digital signage and Wi‑Fi. Clear scope delineation and coordinated sequencing with specialist consultants enable seamless system expansion within the operating terminal.
