Stronger than ever: 2024, the year BESIX Watpac secures top industry ranking
BESIX Watpac has released its 2024 Annual Review, showcasing a landmark year of growth, securing over $3.3 billion in new work and earning recognition as Australia’s top builder by the BCI Construction League.
The company closed the year with a record order book of $3.5 billion, comprising carefully selected projects across all sectors, especially those where the builder can add the most value.
BESIX Watpac Chief Executive Officer Mark Baker attributed the company’s success to its strategic planning, strong leadership and committed local teams.
“Our strong position today was only possible because of the hard work completed in the previous two financial years. Challenging market conditions that arose in the COVID-19 period led to a strategic shift, to be more pragmatic and adaptable to the market,” Mr Baker said.
“This agility was coupled with a renewed appreciation of our role on projects, to find and capture value for all stakeholders and deliver operational excellence.
“Our highly experienced Group Leadership Team, with a remarkable 180 years of combined tenure at BESIX Watpac, has been instrumental in guiding the company through one of its most successful eras yet.
“We have built a strong forward order book across all regions with opportunities converted in sectors such as health, Defence, secure facilities, complex industrial and food processing infrastructure.”
BESIX Watpac has built its reputation as a respected builder across Australia and New Zealand through every project undertaken and the passionate people who bring them to life.
“With over a century of heritage in Australia, we’ve forged a strong identity across the market, delivering every major stadium in Queensland, over 50 Defence projects across 30 military bases, more than 90 hospitals since 1990, and over 100 secure facility projects," he said.
“With this experience, BESIX Watpac is well positioned for the strong pipeline ahead – including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as opportunities across all operational regions and in current and emerging sectors.”
Reflecting on the company’s growth, he emphasised the tenacity and resilience of the BESIX Watpac team.
“Our people have demonstrated determination, leadership and excellence in the way they have faced challenges and opportunities, collaborating with our partners, subcontractors and stakeholders to deliver outstanding results.”
“Last year, we welcomed over 175 new starters and I’d like to thank our existing workforce for the inclusive way they have embraced these new team members into the BESIX Watpac way.”
Mr Baker reflected on this new chapter in BESIX Watpac’s proud history as a mainstay of the local industry.
“As we progress through 2025, our focus remains on agility, selecting the right projects, and strengthening relationships with key delivery partners. These priorities ensure we are well positioned for the future.”
