Stadium builder expands NZ portfolio with new Lincoln University project
BESIX Watpac has reinforced its presence in New Zealand with the award of another project in Canterbury – the delivery of Lincoln University’s new catered hall of residence on its campus.

A key component of Lincoln University’s accommodation strategy, the new catered hall is designed to provide safe, comfortable on-campus living for accommodation students and to enhance the University’s central hub.
The team will deliver a purpose-built, catered student accommodation facility within a two-wing, five-storey building. The development will include 231 bedrooms along with communal spaces, study areas, a theatre, games room, administration facilities, and landscaped outdoor areas, with a total gross floor area of approximately 5,665 square metres.
BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker said the project reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to New Zealand and its ability to deliver complex projects in partnership.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Lincoln University on this fantastic new building,” Mr Baker said.
“Our experience having delivered 125 education projects and strong digital construction capability will ensure seamless delivery.
“It’s an important milestone in our New Zealand journey and builds on the momentum of our on-time and on budget delivery of One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha for Christchurch City Council.
“We’re excited about our future here in New Zealand as we continue to expand and bring our collaborative approach and expertise to the market.”
Lincoln University’s Chief Operating Officer, Susie Roulston, said the new accommodation hall is a key element in the University’s goal to deliver a world-class campus experience for its accommodation students.
“Lincoln University is pleased to be working with BESIX Watpac to construct our new catered hall of residence, to be ready for its first cohort of accommodation students in Semester 1 2029”
“The new hall will be a safe, comfortable home-away-from-home for our accommodation students, and will enhance the University’s reputation for providing a distinctive end-to-end Aotearoa New Zealand student experience.”
The project will leverage BESIX Watpac’s integrated delivery approach, aligning planning, design development and construction from the outset. BIM technology will support buildability, programme certainty and whole-of-life performance outcomes.
Designed to provide high-quality, durable student accommodation, the new catered hall of residence will support student wellbeing, campus life and long-term value for investment.
