Major milestone at St George Hospital celebrated with Ministerial visit
BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker joined NSW Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Health Ryan Park, and Member for Rockdale, Minister Steve Kamper for a walkthrough of the newly completed Kensington Street Building at St George Hospital.

The new nine-storey building will accommodate community and outpatient care, bringing a range of services together under one roof. The consolidation of services will improve access and coordination, replacing functions that are currently delivered from multiple locations across the hospital campus.
BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker said: “Our success on this key stage for Health Infrastructure NSW reflects the strength of our partnership, our commitment to improved productivity and our experience working alongside the NSW Government to build essential community infrastructure throughout the state.”
“It’s been wonderful to be a part of the Kogarah community for the past few years building this fantastic hospital – I’m extraordinarily proud of our project team and local subcontractors who have successfully delivered this complex stage of the project for the community.”

Final preparations are under way to ensure Kensington Street Building and staff are ready to welcome patients when it opens soon.
BESIX Watpac General Manager NSW & ACT, Giovanni Polimeni, said: “Reaching this milestone is an important moment for the St George Hospital staff and the BESIX Watpac project team and partners who have contributed to the project over the last several years. Delivering a complex build within a live hospital environment requires close collaboration, careful planning and a shared commitment to patient outcomes.
“As we move into the final stage of the redevelopment, our focus turns to completing the forecourt and surrounding green spaces, which will further enhance the precinct and create a welcoming, functional environment for staff, patients and the wider community.”
NSW Premier Chris Minns said: “This redevelopment is about making sure our local hospital can keep up with a growing community with better facilities for patients and a better workplace for staff.”
The redevelopment is estimated to have directly supported 750 jobs, along with thousands of indirect jobs over the life of the project.
