Eastwood Private Hospital one step closer to completion
Eastwood Private Hospital, one of the latest health infrastructure developments in South Australia aimed at meeting growing demands for health services in the region, has reached a significant milestone with contractor BESIX Watpac recently completing the external structure.
To celebrate this milestone, BESIX Watpac joined Barwon Investment Partners and other key project stakeholders for a topping out ceremony recently.
BESIX Watpac General Manager Victoria & South Australia Al Crosby said the company was pleased to be making excellent progress on an important project that will help ease demand for health services across the region.
“BESIX Watpac’s world-class expertise and in-depth knowledge of the detailed requirements and complex nature of health projects combined with our collaborative approach have been major factors in the ongoing success of this project,” Mr Crosby said.
“This enables our teams to deliver certainty for our clients as we work through complex project requirements in collaboration with our delivery partners.”
Tom Patrick, Head of Healthcare Property at Barwon Investment Partners commented on the progress that has been made to date.
“This project is a significant investment into the healthcare services offered in the region and we’re delighted to see the hospital coming together,” Mr Patrick said.
“The project includes state-of-the-art operating theatre facilities that will help reduce surgery wait times and provide patients with a wider range of healthcare options. Barwon’s investment into Eastwood Private Hospital will deliver a truly valued-based integrated healthcare model.”
BESIX Watpac South Australia Manager Craig Bentley said the team has been proactive in engaging local subcontractors.
“Eastwood Private Hospital is estimated to generate $90 million in economic activity throughout construction,” Mr Bentley said.
“The projects BESIX Watpac delivers are a legacy for the communities we operate in, and this extends to the high-quality infrastructure that is delivered through to creating opportunities for locals. We’ve engaged over 40 local businesses so far throughout delivery of this project.”
More than 8,300m3 concrete has gone into the building’s structure with final concrete pour taking place earlier this month. Now that the external structure is complete, the focus shifts to the fit-out which is currently underway on all levels. Installation of the façade has also commenced.
Once complete, the state-of-the-art hospital will offer comprehensive medical services including a six-theatre perioperative floor, a 51-bed ward, medical imaging and pathology.
BESIX Watpac is responsible for the fit-out works across all lobby and corridor areas, as well as ground and levels 3 and 4, which houses the perioperative floor and ward rooms. Works also include a carpark, all associated plant, equipment, support services, courtyards, and external landscaping. The finished development will feature a café and retail space.
The hospital is due to open in 2025 and is expected to significantly ease pressure on the existing healthcare system.
