Connect Brisbane, a consortium led by BESIX Watpac, has been shortlisted by Brisbane City Council to deliver the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge.

The new landmark pedestrian and cycle bridge for the city reach of the Brisbane River will be delivered using a collaborative Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) procurement process to select a team to undertake the final design and construction of the project.

BESIX Watpac CEO Jean-Pol Bouharmont welcomed the Brisbane City Council announcement.

“Together with our partners in Connect Brisbane, we are excited to have the opportunity to showcase our combined expertise and work collaboratively with Council through the ECI phase to devise the best final design and methodology to deliver an outstanding bridge for the people of Brisbane and our visitors.”

“Kangaroo Point Green Bridge (KPGB) will be the centrepiece of Brisbane City Council’s active transport network and greening-of-the-city strategies. It is an exciting opportunity to achieve a new signature landmark and add to our rich cultural tapestry while improving connectivity, enhancing community, and stimulating employment and economic activity,” Jean-Pol said.

Led by BESIX Watpac, Connect Brisbane also includes Rizzani de Eccher, WSP, Dissing + Weitling, Blight Rayner, Aspect Studios, Right Angle Studios and Rowland.

A contract for the design and construction of the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge is expected to be awarded by mid-2021, subject to approvals.
