Celebrating opening weekend at One NZ Stadium
Being part of the opening crowds in Christchurch as the stadium came alive for Super Rugby Super Round was something truly special.

Over three days, fans packed out the venue for sold-out matches, creating an electric atmosphere and delivering an estimated $6 million boost to the local economy.
Our CEO Mark Baker, General Manager – QLD & NZ Wade Cummins, and the BESIX Watpac project team watched on with pride as the first game marked the culmination of years of teamwork, planning and commitment.
This project is a powerful example of how BESIX Watpac delivers stadiums – we brought deep expertise, strong collaboration and the most advanced digital stadium model to deliver ahead of schedule.
From day one, local involvement was a priority. With 92% of the workforce and 77% of engaged businesses based in the South Island, the project has generated meaningful, long-term benefits for the region – both during construction and well beyond.
Celebrating the first game was a defining moment and a clear reminder of what delivering with certainty looks like: crossing the line ahead of schedule and creating something the whole community can be proud of.
