BESIX Watpac Shortlisted for Frankston Hospital

The Pulse Health Partnership consortium with BESIX Watpac as construction partner, has been shortlisted to deliver the Frankston Hospital redevelopment and expansion in Victoria.
The $560 million project will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and will provide the people of the Mornington Peninsula with expanded health services including a multi-level acute services tower, new maternity, obstetrics, and paediatric wards, and a new women’s clinic. The expansion includes extra beds, operating theatres and improved mental health and oncology services.
One of three shortlisted consortia, Pulse Health Partnership incorporates the health infrastructure delivery expertise of BESIX Watpac, infrastructure investment partner John Laing and services and maintenance partner, Serco.
BESIX Watpac CEO Jean-Pol Bouharmont welcomed the announcement of the shortlist.
“The delivery of complex health infrastructure is a priority sector for BESIX Watpac and we are proud of recent examples delivered under PPP such as the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Services (STARS) building in Brisbane and the Casey Hospital Expansion in Berwick Victoria. We are excited by the prospect of delivering this vital new infrastructure for Frankston,” Jean-Pol said.
BESIX Watpac General Manager for Victoria and South Australia, Simon Ballard said the shortlisting would ramp up the company’s preparation for the project.
“We are focused on targeting the employment of as many local Mornington Peninsula people as possible and we anticipate the Frankston Hospital Expansion will generate up to 1,700 jobs during construction and new job opportunities for healthcare workers. It will be a game changer for health services in Frankston and we want maximum involvement from local subcontractors and suppliers so we can have an expanded hospital delivered by the people of Frankston, for the people of Frankston,” Simon said.
BESIX Watpac has already contributed to improved health services on the Mornington Peninsula, delivering the Frankston Private Hospital expansion in 2017. The company has an impressive portfolio of achievements in health infrastructure, ranging from research facilities such as the acclaimed QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane to current projects such as the state-of-the-art Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital redevelopment in Sydney.
