BESIX Watpac is proud to announce it has been named as head contractor for the $780 million new Shellharbour Hospital project, its ninth project in partnership with Health Infrastructure.
BESIX Watpac Chief Executive Officer Mark Baker said the company was thrilled to secure the opportunity to deliver an important project in the region that will draw on the company’s expertise in the health sector.
“BESIX Watpac’s reputation as a trusted partner in public health infrastructure is well-established, and our team brings extensive experience in managing complex projects,” Mr Baker said.
“We are delighted to have been named builder for the new Shellharbour Hospital project and we look forward to collaborating with Health Infrastructure to deliver an enhanced health offering to the region.”
BESIX Watpac has delivered numerous hospitals throughout New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. In NSW, BESIX Watpac is also spearheading the transformative St George Hospital Stage 3 Redevelopment in Sydney.
BESIX Watpac General Manager for New South Wales, Giovanni Polimeni said the new project demonstrates the emphasis the company places on forging enduring partnerships.
“We are extremely proud to continue our collaboration with Health Infrastructure. Our team looks forward to strengthening our established relationship and delivering our ninth project together,” Mr Polimeni said.
The new hospital development will serve the growing healthcare demands of the expanding community in Shellharbour and the encompassing region, reducing the need for people to travel for treatment.
In a media release announcing BESIX Watpac as the builder for the new Shellharbour Hospital, Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson MP spoke about the employment opportunities the project will generate for the community.
“The works will also help drive education and job opportunities for the Illawarra region, supporting around 800 direct jobs during construction, with the potential to support thousands of indirect jobs over the life of the project,” Ms Watson said.
The hospital has been designed to enable construction of a future rooftop helipad and will feature:
· An expanded emergency department
· Increased surgical capacity
· Rehabilitation and aged care services
· Acute medical services
· Mental health services
· Renal dialysis
· Outpatients care services
· Car parking and improved public transport links
