BESIX Watpac celebrates the opening of the new Adelaide Marriott Hotel
Built by BESIX Watpac, Marriott’s latest entry in Australia, marks a first for the global hotel chain, as they open their doors in Adelaide.

The new Adelaide Marriott Hotel is set within the historic General Post Office (GPO) building, a heritage listed landmark that has occupied its prime CBD position on the corner of King William and Franklin Streets for more than 150 years.
BESIX Watpac General Manager for Victoria and South Australia, Al Crosby said the completion of the Adelaide Marriott Hotel was the result of the construction teams hard work, resilience and innovative and solutions-based planning.
“A job of this scale and complexity exemplifies BESIX Watpac’s ability to deliver exceptional world-class projects. It stands as another outstanding addition to our distinguished global portfolio across the Residential and Hotels sector, which includes iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and the Royal Atlantis Resort and Residences in Dubai,” Mr Crosby said.
“Construction commenced in March 2021 – a difficult time for the world and the construction industry. Our team worked through this challenging period and I’m incredibly proud of the work they’ve accomplished and their ability to deliver a truly stunning project for the city of Adelaide.”
Approximately 620 tonnes of structural steel was utilised in the tower section of the project, while 137 tonnes were dedicated to the heritage area. More than 7,500 cubic metres of concrete were poured, and 1,092 individual exterior scallop sections were installed, creating the building’s stunning façade.
The property developer behind the extraordinary build, Greaton, commissioned the project, appointing BESIX Watpac as the builder.
“Our experience with BESIX Watpac has been exceptionally positive. The local team expertly managed the design and construction of the hotel, and we collaborated closely through various stages of planning to ensure the project’s successful delivery,” Managing Director for Greaton Nicho Teng said.
The 14-level luxury hotel includes 285 rooms, a presidential suite, club lounge, restaurants and bars, swimming pool and fitness centre, and function and conference rooms.
Adelaide Marriott Hotel General Manager Paul Gallop said the new hotel would act as a launchpad for exploring Adelaide.
“From premier cultural, sporting, culinary, and business events, to exploring world-renowned wine regions, Adelaide is booming. We are excited to open this milestone hotel, the first Marriott Hotel in South Australia, and look forward to welcoming our guests to experience our heartfelt service and wonderful hospitality,” he said.
