BESIX Watpac has been recognised at the Master Builders Queensland State Awards, taking home top honours for two projects:

  • James Cook University Engineering and Innovation Place won the award for Education Facilities over $10M
  • Gold Coast University Hospital Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) won the award for Health Facilities over $20M

Both projects had previously won at their respective regional awards earlier this year, with JCU EIP also named Project of the Year at the North Queensland awards.

Located in Townsville and one of five projects with long-term partner JCU, the EIP is a world-class STEM facility that brings together engineering, IT, and research disciplines into one collaborative environment. The four-storey building is architecturally remarkable, with almost every aspect bespoke – and showcases the excellence of the North Queensland team. Delivered in close alignment with the architect’s vision, the project has earned multiple industry accolades, including being named in the Prix Versailles list of the world’s most beautiful campuses.

Delivered in partnership with Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service, the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit is the first facility of its kind on the Gold Coast, purpose-built to provide specialised care in a secure environment. Located within an operational hospital campus, the project required close collaboration across all teams to maximise efficiency and deliver added value. It also provided a strong start for 115 apprentices, who gained valuable experience in the industry. Importantly, the project was delivered by a 100% South East Queensland-based subcontractor workforce.

BESIX Watpac is proud that these transformative projects and the teams behind them have been recognised by industry, and looks forward to the upcoming national awards.
