Adelaide’s landmark GPO Hotel contract finalised
The full contract for delivery of Adelaide’s spectacular GPO Hotel redevelopment has been finalised between BESIX Watpac and developer, Greaton.

While the project has been underway for some time, the detailed design had to be completed before the full scope of the contract could be finalised.
It’s now full steam ahead for BESIX Watpac on the signature GPO Marriott Hotel project which is valued at approximately $120 million and scheduled for completion in late 2023.
BESIX Watpac CEO Jean-Pol Bouharmont joined the South Australian Premier Steven Marshall and Greaton Managing Director Nicho Teng for the official sod turning earlier this year.
“BESIX Watpac is a Tier 1 contractor for complex luxury hotel projects internationally and around Australia and the GPO Hotel project is a wonderful opportunity for our team to showcase the passion and operational excellence that we are renowned for,” Jean-Pol said.
BESIX Watpac South Australia Manager Al Crosby pointed to the diversity of the company’s project portfolio in the state.
“We’re delivering a huge variety of work in South Australia ranging from the Adelaide Airport expansion to specialist secure facilities and in the GPO Hotel, a complex mix of luxury high rise and intricate heritage preservation,” Al said.
“We are a key player in the South Australian economy and we are looking to further diversify our role here, including in defence facilities”.
The GPO Marriott Hotel will be a true 5 Star hotel in the heart of the Adelaide CBD and it will become a key driver in the tourism industry.
The project is anticipated to generate more than 600 jobs during construction and 250 ongoing operational roles when the hotel opens in late 2023.
