Respecting and redeveloping historic athletics facilities
State Sports Facilities Project
#Overview
This project involved the redevelopment of Lakeside Oval and Albert Park, providing a variety of sporting facilities to be enjoyed by sporting clubs and the wider community including two synthetic and two grass playing fields along with a 7,400-seat northern grandstand and upgrades to electronic systems. Lakeside Oval is now the State Athletics Centre which provides a variety of high-quality athletics facilities, the most notable being an International IAAF Class 1-approved synthetic eight-lane running track. BESIX Watpac also undertook refurbishment of the former South Melbourne Football Club grandstand, now the new home for the Victorian Institute of Sport.
