#Overview
This project involved the complete redevelopment of the existing stadium, increasing the seating capacity to 25,000 with provision for increased capacity in the future. While primarily an Australian football league stadium, it has also been certified for rugby union, rugby league, cricket, soccer and athletics. Featuring six hundred custom-made solar panels and the ability to generate 20 per cent of its forecast energy needs, Metricon Stadium was Australia’s first ‘solar stadium’. The stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
