The new automated port terminal delivered by BESIX has enabled the rapid delivery and storage of a coarse-grained rock used in asphalt and concrete called Gabbro, which is one of Qatar’s main commodities. Conveyors and cranes on rails were built to transport Gabbro from the ship to the warehouse. This automated process has eliminated the need for trucks, which has had significant environmental benefits. The large quantities of fine dust released when loading the commodity onto trucks has been eliminated and carbon emissions have been drastically reduced now that trucks no longer have to travel between the port and the warehouse.
