#Overview
The Yeinie Building is a flagship initiative by James Cook University (JCU), designed as a hub for clinical education, research, and innovation in tropical health and related disciplines. Located adjacent to Cairns Hospital, this facility is a key component of the Far North Queensland Health and Innovation Precinct (FNQHIP), now known as the Dugurrdja Precinct, a name gifted by the local Yidinji Traditional Owners.

The Yeinie Building is the first in Cairns to feature a structure made from glued laminated beams and cross-laminated timber floor and wall panels. Advancing tropical health and medical research, the building forms part of the Far North Queensland Health Innovation Precinct and stands alongside the Cairns Hospital’s new surgical centre.
The four-storey facility houses 3,500m² of multidisciplinary education, teaching and research space, with learning facilities on the ground floor and dedicated teaching and research areas on the upper levels. It serve as a hub for collaboration, bringing together health and medical professionals with JCU’s engineers, data scientists and IT specialists to drive innovation in healthcare.
