Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has awarded Watpac with the CEO Workplace Health and Safety Award for work on the Brisbane Airport Domestic Terminal retail upgrade.

The award recognises a contractor who best exemplifies BAC’s vision and values when it comes to workplace health and safety, including collaborative communication and consultative stakeholder engagement. The award to Watpac is profiled by the National Safety Council of Australia.

Watpac worked closely with BAC and key stakeholders to create a fit-for-purpose safety strategy on the project, involving an invisible scaffold and support from the existing roof structure.

When complete Watpac’s upgrade work will deliver 48 new tenancies including reconfigured and upgraded food halls, speciality retailers, premium bars and restaurants. The project is part of BAC’s major redevelopment of its Domestic Terminal.

Brisbane Airport is the premier gateway to Queensland with the Domestic Terminal accommodating around 17.5 million passengers each year and 3,000 average weekly domestic aircraft movements.
