An evergreen tree was hoisted onto the roof slab in a centuries-old tradition that is said to bring good fortune to the building and its occupants.

BESIX Watpac Port Macquarie Manager Amos Frankel pointed to the strength of the relationship with Garden Village following on from the successful Cascades development in 2018.

“The BESIX Watpac project team and I are truly humbled to once again partner with Garden Village and work with them to further enhance the choices for retirement living on the mid north coast,” Amos said.

Garden Village CEO Craig Wearne said the Top Out was a great milestone after a series of challenges including bushfires, floods and a global pandemic.

“Garden Village is proud of the economic benefit this development brings to the local community and the more than 200 local jobs and up to 80 construction jobs generated directly onsite. This project has already provided over 72,000 hours of work for people and pushed $12 million through the local economy," Craig said

The Top Out ceremony effective marks the start of the fit-out phase for The Banksia which will feature 35 retirement living apartments on three levels.

The project is set for completion in May 2022.
