BESIX Watpac General Manager for Victoria & South Australia, Al Crosby said completion of the facility is testimony to the hard work of local subcontractors.

“The pace of this project has been phenomenal since day one – our team worked closely with 40 local subcontractors to ensure rapid delivery and a quality outcome to enable SAPOL to do what they do best, sooner.”

Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens said the proximity to the city is essential for SAPOL’s operational capability, ensuring units can effectively respond to incidents and events throughout the city.

“The purpose-built facility has office space, six kennels, 12 stables and a round yard to support SAPOL’s operational capabilities in the city,” he said.

“Our mounted officers are deployed in the city on Friday and Saturday nights, for large events such as the Adelaide Fringe as well as for planned protests and throughout the week as part of their training of the Police Horses.

“The police dogs and their handlers will use the staging area when they are deployed to the city. Their kennels include soundproofing to minimise noise pollution to the surrounding area.”

This milestone coincides with the completion of the Gepps Cross facility, also delivered by BESIX Watpac, where the Mounted Operations Unit and Dog Operation Unit reside when not at the new City Staging site.
