Last night, BESIX Watpac Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Baker was named Executive of the Year – Construction, Transport and Logistics at the CEO Magazine Executive of the Year Awards. This follows his recognition as winner of The Urban Developer’s 2025 Urban Leader Award for Construction on 30 October, cementing his reputation as one of the industry’s most influential leaders.

These prestigious awards in the business and property sectors celebrate excellence, innovation, and leadership at the highest level. Winning two honours in as many weeks highlights Mark’s strength and values as a leader. It also reinforces his influence on our company’s strategic direction and his commitment to shaping the future of construction.

With more than 25 years of experience and 15 years with BESIX Watpac, Mark has guided the company through one of the toughest market periods, emerging stronger, more resilient, and crystal clear on the value we deliver. Today, our business is in our most successful era yet – primed for continued growth with a diverse portfolio of iconic, complex, and community-shaping projects.

Under Mark’s leadership, BESIX Watpac has been recognised as Australia’s Top Builder by the BCI Construction Outlook Report and continues to set new benchmarks for quality, capability, and performance.

“These awards reflect the commitment of our people to our company and the culture we’ve built together,” he said. “Our people will always be at the heart of everything we do, and our success is driven by collaboration, resilience, and a shared commitment to building the best together,” Mark said.

“BESIX Watpac’s values-driven culture – built on Excellence, Co-Creation, Respect, Unity and Passion – continues to underpin our success and position us as a trusted partner for major programs nationally including Brisbane 2032, and the pipeline across Defence and security infrastructure, complex industrial and health in Australia and New Zealand.”

Chris Dutton, Founder CEO Magazine said, “Great leadership in Australia today looks a lot less like ‘command and control’ and a lot more like courage, authenticity and impact.”

This certainly rings true for Mark’s style of leadership. Under his guidance, BESIX Watpac will continue to shape the future of construction through smarter delivery, high productivity, digital construction, and strong partnerships, while maintaining a relentless focus on safety, wellbeing, and the development of our people.
